Welcome. You've taken a big step by deciding to look for someone to help you. Now you need to find the right therapist to meet your needs.

I'm Ralph Cahoon, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker  and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I'm experienced in helping people learn to cope with a wide variety of mental health and/or substance abuse problems. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, depression and substance abuse. I also work with couples on relationship issues. I believe everyone can change for the better with appropriate assistance.

The most important factor in therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. I strive to make that relationship safe, open and honest. This means that counseling has to be an ongoing dialogue between the client and therapist, not a lecture.

Prior to my work as a therapist, I was as a police officer for 26 years. Due to this background, I especially enjoy working with law enforcement officers and other First Responders, as I understand how hard their jobs are. But everyone seeking help is welcome.

I love what I do. My primary therapy approaches involve helping people to learn how to think and act in healthier ways, as well as to focus on solutions instead of staying stuck on their problems. Therapy should provide you with tools and strategies you can use in the real world. I use a variety of techniques because everyone is different and there is no "one size fits all" mode of therapy that works for everyone.

Picking a therapist can be difficult, so I provide prospective clients with a no-cost 30 minute introductory meeting. This allows both of us to see if it feels like a good fit. Please call or email me to set up a meeting.

I offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments to try to meet your schedule.

Thanks for stopping by and I wish you well......Ralph
